Attorney Silva was previously Of Counsel at Schonland & Associates, P.C. In addition to serving Of Counsel, Attorney Silva has extensive law enforcement experience serving over twenty years with the New Bedford Police Department before choosing between multiple offers from different communities to serve as the Chief of Police. Attorney Silva presently serves as Chief of Police for the Town of Westwood, Massachusetts.  Attorney Silva’s litigation and mediation experience focuses on criminal defense, traffic and motor vehicle appeals, employment discrimination and labor disputes including mediation hearings at the municipal government level.

Attorney Silva has been honored for his achievements including life saving, heroism and honorable service from numerous governmental, public and private agencies during his many years of public service.  He was is a graduate of the 241st Session of the prestigious FBI National Academy, the Command Training Program at the Institute for Law Enforcement Management at Babson College and the Southern Police Institute Executive Leadership Program through the University of Louisville.  Attorney Silva has worked through the ranks at every level of police service from police cadet, patrol officer, background investigator, homicide and major crimes detective, patrol sergeant, detective sergeant in internal affairs, narcotics and organized crime divisions, federal task force agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, lieutenant and detective lieutenant serving as the Public Information Officer and official department spokesperson assigned to the Chief of Police, the Chief of Detectives and the Commander of a district platoon before taking on his current role as the Chief of Police.

Attorney Silva has extensive experience in the district and superior courts of the Commonwealth and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Unemployment Division, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and the US Merit Systems Protection Board in addition to various other regulatory committees.  He is prepared to zealously advocate for clients of the firm and advise or instruct in the various areas of his expertise.

Attorney Silva is an Honors Graduate of Stonehill College where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.  He is also a graduate of Middlebury College and its campus in Madrid, Spain at El Instituto Internacional where he received his Master’s Degree.  Attorney Silva received his law degree from the University of Massachusetts School of Law at Dartmouth (formerly the Southern New England School of Law) where he had the honor of serving on the Editorial Board of the Law Review. He was the recipient of numerous academic awards, scholarships and distinctions.

Attorney Silva is a member of the Westwood Police Relief Association, the Massachusetts Police Association, the Norfolk County Chiefs of Police Association, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the New England Chiefs of Police Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum, the FBI National Academy Associates and the bar associations of Massachusetts, Plymouth District and Bristol County.

Attorney Silva is admitted to practice before all Massachusetts courts and is committed to service for those he serves.  Attorney Silva is also fluent in Spanish.
